Interesting Sighting Details of the Tarasque

The tarasque has been known as a ferocious dragon that has been sighted since ancient times, to present day. This mysterious legendary monster was claimed to be seen in France. French people even say that this creature has wrecked fields in the area.

It is believed that the creature lives in a lake in the south of France. A sea serpent that has four limbs, it can walk on its legs and live on both land and water. It has an armor of scales that has dangerous spikes. It has bear-like claws and a long scaly tail with a sting.

The tale of tarasque dragon and the villagers is so popular in France. The story is about the lake dragon that moves out of the lake to prey on a victim. It usually takes a virgin when it goes to land. This scared the villagers as no one can fight the big dragon. The locals even asked for help from the King of France but no one can save them from this scary beast.

Now the town was only small and they don’t have treasures to offer the dragon or a noble man to kill the beast so the villagers were desperate that they planned of abandoning the town. But St. Martha happened to pass by and learned of the dreadful situation. She helped the villagers by asking them to pray to God for three days.

After that, the saint went to the shores of the lake where she sang hymns and played music. The story goes that the wild tarasque dragon was tamed by the beautiful music that the beast heard. The dragon rose from the water and lay down at her feet then she led the dragon to town where the villagers killed it.

The town is now known as the popular Tarascon which is named after the destructive dragon. This village holds a festival every year to commemorate the Tarasque beast. It is done every last of Sunday of June and is celebrated with a traditional tarasque parade. The creature is now well-loved by French people unlike their ancestors.

But the tarasque dragon in France isn’t alone. Vietnam also claims that they have a tarasque dragon in its Halong Bay. Ha Long which literally means “Where the dragon descends into the sea”, has some recent sightings of this ferocious dragon that is still being spotted up to present times.
