Interesting Sighting Details of the Kikiyaon

There are a lot of fearsome animals in the African jungles and plains. But probably the most terrifying and also the least seen and thus, least understood creature is the Kikiyaon, or soul cannibal as the locals call it. It was said to resemble a humungous owl, especial its head - which is the most owl-like of this creature’s entire body.

It also has huge teeth and talons that could easily rip through flesh. The Bambara people of Africa also claim that this is a winged creature, with its wings tipped by sharp spurs that offer another weapon to use when its talons fail to do the job. It is also said to be covered by small, greenish grey hair, and is said to smell similar to that of a dead snake that has been under the sun for too long.

It is also said to make a few sounds that would terrify anybody who hears it. The first call is like a low grunting sound that might be mistaken for the call of the Pel’s Fishing Owl. This grunting sound can carry over the savannah and be heard from miles away, with each grunt increasing the creature’s fearsomeness.

The other call is a more horrendous one. It has a strangled cry that comes from its throat that cannot be attributed to any animal in Africa. This screeching sound can be heard through the night sky of the African plains. The strangled moan is similar to the sound a man makes as he is slowly being strangled to death.

This fearsome creature is said to rely on its stealth when hunting people who are in a desperate state to find their way back before the night’s darkness falls upon them. But the Kikiyaon often screeches before it attacks and thus, it is said that it is usually heard before one sees it.

If people are able to escape their sharp talons (which is highly unlikely since these creatures can outrun a human being and also swoop down from above and grab its prey), they still eventually die of some other illness or even shock. But this being is not only a physical threat but is believed to also kill people in their dreams. Locals believe that the Kikiyaon also tries to grab people in their sleep but in here, they do not have the ability to smell their prey, making it easier to evade them.
