Interesting Sighting Details of the Batutut

You saw something but you don't know what it was. The creepy creature made your hair stand on end. You don't want to tell other people fearing that they would think you are nuts. World renowned zoologist John Mackinnon reported that he felt that way too when he discovered more than 12 pairs of human like footprints of the Batutut deep in the rain forest of Malaysia in 1970.

In 1982 similar footprints were found in the slopes of Chu Mo Ray Mountain by Vietnamese professor Tran Hong Viet. The Vietnamese name for these creatures is Nguoi Rung which means forest people. In Indonesia, people would talk of mystifying creatures they call Sedapa or Orang Pendek (short man).

Every culture has its own legends, myths and folklores about mysterious creatures, about little people and about giants as well. These stories are orally passed from generation to generation. Although these stories are basically unfounded one would think that there is probably some truth to it as most people would corroborate the tale.

Village people in Barisan Mountains in Sumatra recounted a sighting of Batutut. A hairy creature about 15 meters away gravely stared at the people and nonchalantly walked away. Some people have also seen Batutut up in trees. Others have reported that they were able to sit with a Batutut, offer the creature food and hear it murmur unintelligible words.

In 1918, a hunter saw tracks very similar to that of a human being. Although he searched the area he failed to see these forest people. Several years later he saw similar footprints. This time he became lucky because when he followed the footprints he saw a dark and hairy creature up in a tree. It had dark reddish hair that fell below the shoulder blades and feet that dangleg from a tree branch, that looked very humanlike.

The creature was eating a large frog. All Batutut that have been sighted are reported to be very hairy creatures not unlike an orangutan. Roughly 4 feet tall. They have long hairs, a protruding belly, thick shoulders and very filthy leathery neck! Women Batutut have extremely long pendulous breasts. All sightings tell that Batututs are bipedal creatures although they walk with an awkward gait.

These small people or creatures seem to be very strong as they are seen shaking or uprooting trees in search of insects. Just like an ape, these forest people are nimble climbers too. They are known to eat fruits, vegetables and even human meat too. It was reported that these creatures are very aggressive and are known to attack humans. They would kill a human, tear the person apart and eat the liver. To this day Batututs are still believed to inhabit the jungles of Malaysia and Indonesia.
